Have you become a great digital friend? Are you accessible and real outside of the the digital networks? Or as it killed your qualities that use to be oh so great? Just think about who or what you use to be before you were able to log in to Facebook, Twitter or the new one Global14.com (JD’s social network). For some it actually has made you a better person, may have gotten you through some rough times, or may have even gotten you into some rough times (laughing) For others you have created a Derek Blanks alter ego.
It has changed our relationships, our values our lives. When is too much too much. When do you need to go to rehab, and admit that digital networking has handicapped you (guilty) we don’t communicate with each other like we use to. Is it really appropriate to tell someone happy birthday only on Facebook and you have their number (guilty) digital networking have taken mass communication to another level.
Think about it when is the last time you picked up the phone and actually had a full blown conversation without feeling awkward. Granted I am the first person to admit that text messaging me is the best way to reach me. Yes, it’s more convient and doesn’t require that much attention. If you really annoy me I just won’t simply respond (whoa I just let that secret slip) but how rude is it not to give someone your undivided attention when conversing. Who’s to blame for this epidemic? Do we start with Tom (MySpace owner) By the way, if you still post on the daily on MySpace it’s time for you to reinvent yourself PERIOD.
I am more than sure that the reason that some cell phone carriers have changed their rate plans to $50.00 unlimited everything would be because cell phone minutes are obsolete. If someone tells you they can’t talk because they’re running out of minutes, go ahead and put them on your “liar liar pants on fire” list.
I enjoy digital networks they’re entertaining, funny and it does keep you in touch with those that you normally wouldn’t even see in a decade time spand. Also keeps you awake in that long meeting when the speaker is starting to sound like a member of the Charlie Brown cast womp! womp! womp!
At what point do we recognize the disconnect that we have created? Can we turn it around or has it become such the norm no one sees the issue at hand?
At the end of the day we need to reconnect like we us to back in the PAGER days.
Be BLESSED
I'm old school. I still use the land-line telephone. And, I still send Thinking of You Cards (although I do send some of these electronically). Just like everything else that's been inflated, we need to adjust a little bit. We need to try and maintain our God given gift "speech". Some people can't even old a conversation. And as far as that texting stuff goes, I think it's RUDE to do that when you're in a room and people are talking to you, at you, for you, or whatever. And please, people, please don't text while driving.
ReplyDeleteElectronic thinking of you cards that is a good idea never thought of that hmmmm.Yes verbal conversations are extinct, but how do we get that old thing back? Why have we become like mimes (mute). Agreed! No texting while driving! But what about emailing while driving (I kid I kid. Thank YOU so much for your comment ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your response to the other person's comment I had to chime in. I don't know that we'll ever get the ol' thing back. However, we must at least try to keep it from becoming extinct. Your question made me think of the lyrics to a song.
ReplyDelete♫♪♫♪ James Ingram's song says:
"Everything must change nothing stays the same
Everyone will change no one stays the same
The young become old and mysteries do unfold
'Cause that's the way of time nothing and no one goes unchanged
There are not many things in life you can be sure of except, rain comes from the clouds, sun lights of the sky, and hummingbirds do fly, winter turns to spring, a wounded heart will heal, oh yeah it will heal, but never much too soon, yes everything and everyone will change."
Wooo, I'm diggin' this and I'm glad I checked it out. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you for taking the time to read and share your comments its encouraging and appreciated!
ReplyDeleteGirrrrrl...i too wish we can go back to the "pager days" where we actually communicated with or TRUE feelings instead of having the option to say something but "deleting" it before we actually send it (how many times have we done that)? but I don't see this world going backwards...it's definitely going to progress and come up with other was of communicating and the telephone will become obsolete...shoot the cell phone may too become obsolete. good post!
ReplyDeleteone love :)
(laughing) YES! texting something then read it over and think naahhhh DELETE!!! You're right what if we just sent it without thinking because thats what we really wanted to say right? Do we think were being too bold or did we forget to turn on our filter when were typing? Ahhh life...
